Reggie Jackson, a 14-time All-Star who was inducted into the Baseball Hall Of Fame in 1993 is also known as Mr. October. Reggie Jackson earned the nickname Mr. October after his great performances in the five World Series he participated in while a member of the Oakland A’s and New York Yankees. His best performance was in the 1977 Fall Classic, where he batted .450 and knocked out five home runs in just 20 at bats. For his career, Jackson hit .357 with 10 homers in 27 World Series games.
Reggie Jackson, known as Mr. October may be more famous for another nickname, “The Straw That Stirs the Drink.” Jackson named himself “The Straw That Stirs the Drink” after signing a five-year, $3 million contract in November of 1976. Jackson’s $3 million contract made him the highest paid member of the Yankees. When Jackson mentioned teammate Thurman Munson, who many Yankees felt was the team leader and should have been the best paid player, Jackson was quoted in a magazine article as saying, “I’m the straw that stirs the drink and Munson thinks he can be the straw that stirs the drink, but he can only stir it bad.”
