What the heck happened to the Knicks?

During the summer of 2010, the New York Knicks will try to give their team a facelift and sign free agent LeBron James. It is about time the Knicks add some credibility to their roster. The Knicks haven’t been the same since Patrick Ewing and company use to roam the halls of Madison Square Garden. And why is this? Who Knows?
The Knicks are a storied franchise that dates back to the 1940s when New York was granted the franchise. During the 1970s, the Knicks were one of the best teams in the league. They won two championships in 1971 and 1973 behind Hall of Fame players Willis Reed, Walt Frazier, Earl Monroe, Dick Barnett and Cazzie Russell. What happened to those good old days?
Actually, the Knicks did return to glory, well in some ways. In 1985 they drafted Patrick Ewing in their first ever Draft Lottery. Ewing became the cornerstone of many great Knick teams in the 1980s and 1990s. Knick fans enjoyed several years of watching them make the playoffs, but also witnessed them lose very important games that could have won them rings.
Now the Knicks are just a second rate team without any star power. New York hasn’t made the playoffs in 6 years and Knicks fans are becoming very upset. When the Knicks hired Isaiah Thomas as their General Manager in 2003, they were in desparate need of star power. Thomas didn’t know how to recruit superstars and he made very bad decisions in drafting players. (I’m not sure how they thought the guy used to greeted Magic Johnson with a kiss at half court before their games would make a difference in their franchise).
Now the Knicks are looking to add Iverson to the mix. I think it might be a good fit, as long as they make Iverson a starter. Iverson loves to run and Mike D’Antoni is a run and gun coach. The two are perfect for each other.
Will New York ever get back to where they were back to their championship days? I think so. New York is a big market city for talented players, which may lead to the signing of LeBron James. Now wouldn’t that be interesting if New York had Iverson and LeBron? I’m not trying to get your hopes up New York, but your time may be coming soon!
