Santa’s List: Teams who have been naughty and nice
Posted on 14 December 2009 by Wanna Be Sports Guy
As the NFL’s regular season draws to a close, Santa can finally give rough grades for each organizations performances this year. And,with the closing of baseball’s winter meetings, he can do the same for our favorite MLB squads. So, what will the fat man bestow upon this quartet? Grab some eggnog and read on.
Nice
New York Yankees
I hate to admit it, but Brian Cashman did a good job assembling the 2009 World Series Champions. Of course, it’s not difficult when your pockets are as deep as the Yankees’ are. With the Bronx Bombers eying up Roy Halladay and John Lackey, they appear positioned to make another post-season run. The addition of Curtis Granderson doesn’t hurt, either. But what do you get for the pro franchise with everything? I don’t know. Maybe they could buy the Mets.
Minnesota Vikings
Again, as a Wisconsin sports fan, this is tough for me to admit. But the Vikes did a great job luring Brett Favre out of retirement and rejuvenating a tired roster. While it remains to be seen whether or not the old coot can hold up through the playoffs, you can’t deny the impact he’s had on the NFL this season. Santa could use a little of that immortality mojo he has on Brett. Maybe then he can play till he’s 50.
Naughty
Chicago Bears
After the trade for perennial naughty-lister Jay Cutler, the Bears are mired in the bottom of the NFC North standings. Considering their poor coaching and personnel decisions (See Devin Hester), each and every member of the front office staff should expect a big fat lump of coal in their stocking come Christmas morning.
Chicago Cubs
I’m sensing a trend here. And I think I’ll avoid attending any motivational/life coaching seminars in Illinois. Their awful decision to sign (and subsequently attempt to trade) Milton Bradley speaks volume about the health of this franchise. Their gift? A 100 year-old chunk of fruitcake, to remind them of better days.
