The Playoff Dilemma
Posted on 29 December 2009 by Wanna Be Sports Guy
As football’s regular season winds down, the Fantasy playoffs are in full swing. For those of us whose star players are on a team which has already clinched a real-life playoff spot, things can get tricky. The Colts for one, despite their undefeated run, have already stated that they may rest some of their key names. Meanwhile, those franchises which are still in the thick of things may ride their top play-makers like never before.
Here’s a look at a few players who may, against common sense, help or hurt your title chances.
Don’t Play Percy Harvin
The Vikings may be in a battle for the NFC North, but a combination of migraine headaches and a tough Panthers passing D will probably translate into mediocre numbers for Favre’s favorite target. Wait and see what he does this week against Carolina. If he plays well, he could be a solid bet against the bears in the penultimate game of the regular season.
Play Kevin Faulk
Yeah, I didn’t see this one coming, either. But hey, I needed a fill-in running back for my game this week, and there he was, sitting on the waiver wire. A close examination of his stats yields some promising numbers, and I think he can make a difference down the stretch. I’m boldly predicting a touchdown and 35 yards against the Bills this week.
Double-back Reverse Psychology Pick
Play Reggie Wayne. I know, I know, there’s the danger of him getting sit in the second half. The only way I see that happening is if the Colts are up big against Jacksonville. And how will that happen? Why, only if Peyton Manning throws for several touchdowns in the first half. Listen, this is going to be a competitive game, and Manning is a competitor. Whether he’s admitting it or not, he wants that 16-0.
And so, dear reader, you may be asking, why should you join me out on each of these prospective limbs? Because I’m 9-4, with most of my losses coming by a scant few points. I know how to pick ‘em.
Most of the time.
