Jets were better off being the Titans

The New York Jets have been around since 1960, excuse me, the New York Titans/Jets have been around since 1960. I personally don’t like the name “Jets” but hey, I’m not in New York, and I’m defiantly not a fan of the team that’s only won one Super Bowl in it’s 50 years of existence. And let’s not talk about how they snuck into the AFC Championship either, another story told at a later time.
Let’s focus on how the Jets got their nickname. First lets talk about how they got the name Titans. The Titans got it’s name because New York, at the time, was the biggest city in America, and the name Titan means a person or persons with exceptional importance and leadership. Well at that time, New York City was the biggest financial area and it’s reputation as the “Big City” was growing by the day.
The Titans only lasted for about 4 years before it was changed to the Jets. The name “Jets” was introduced by new owner Sonny Werblin, who figured that since their new stadium was built by the LaGuardia Airport, the name should be changed to “Jets”. Other stories have surfaced that the Jets name was created to rhyme with the “Mets” New York’s other baseball team. As you can see, I said “other” baseball team, the Yankees are New York’s most beloved baseball team of all-time. Sorry Brooklyn fans.
I guess the “Jets” is a cool nickname. After I did a little research, the name makes sense. Since huge jets fly over the stadium, why not name your team after them? I still like the name “Titans”. Titans represents power and strength, something that the Jets have lacked since Joe Namath left in 1969. Good luck Titans, I mean Jets.
