Review: “Stick a Fork in ‘em”

Posted on 26 January 2010 by Wanna Be Sports Guy

Fantasy football season is still a long way off, but as I said in an earlier column, It’s never too early to begin preparing for the next draft. Once the playoffs are over, we’ll have a more clear-cut look at the field for next year.

On that note, I’ve decided to assemble a list of players who should remain off the roster of any self-respecting owner. Some of these names will surprise you, and some of them may not. There are even a few names here whose value could change in these last few games. But the jury has ruled on many of them, handing down sentences of fantasy frustration and futility.

Pay attention. This just may save your season.

Terrell Owens, WR

Don’t tell me you didn’t see this one coming. The Buffalo experiment was a failure by almost any measurement, and things don’t look to improve next season.

Jake Delhomme, QB

Also known by his alias, “Mr. Wasteofarosterspot.” Don’t draft Delhomme. You’re better off picking up someone like Kyle Orton to man your bench.

Clinton Portis, RB

Once revered as one of the game’s premier backs, Portis’ late-season concussion may further diminish his already questionable fantasy value. He’s only 28 years old, but his injury history doesn’t inspire confidence.

LaDanian Tomlinson, RB

Never thought you’d see LT here, did you? OK, maybe it’s not as much as a surprise as some folks would think. The Charger’s former featured back has struggled through the last couple of seasons, and there’s no reason to waste a pick on him next year. If you’re really dead set on having him as a part of your roster, wait until another foolish owner drops him onto the waiver wire. Trust me – It’ll happen.

Matt Forte, RB

Thank you, God, for granting me the wisdom not to draft any of the Chicago Bears last fantasy season. I pray that you would continue to bless me with your divine judgment come 2010.

That’s all for now folks! Plenty of time left this offseason, so be on the lookout for more fantasy picks and prognostication.
