Totally Uneducated NBA Picks

Posted on 18 January 2010 by Wanna Be Sports Guy

So, I played basket ball for six years between junior high and high school. I wasn’t terrible, and my team was consistently one of the best in our conference. We won a decent number of tournaments, and I have a lot of fond memories of my time spent on the hardwood.

But despite my long association with the game, I never got into watching the NBA. Baseball was always my sport, though I’ve become a big NFL fan over the past few years. I just didn’t care for the culture and the style of play in pro basketball. I was a very defensive-minded player, and that just wasn’t something I saw in the NBA.

However, I’m gradually coming to appreciate the athletes and teams at the pro level. Especially with baseball in hibernation, I’m looking for new ways to spend my sporting fervor.

I mean, I’m watching pro wrestling, for the love of God. How much worse could the NBA be?

So, after a brief immersion in the pro game, I’ve decided to make some totally uneducated playoff picks. Are you ready? Because here goes:

One (or two) and Done: LeBron and Kazaam
Shaq, we love you. But you’re getting slow. The team plays better when you’re on the bench, and I just don’t see you making it past the second round of the playoffs. In fact, King James will have to pump out a monster effort to get past the first series.

Wuss Pick: Lakers make the Finals

What? You don’t need to be a longtime NBA fan to see that Kobe and crew are bound for another title game. Who will they face? I’m going with the Celtics. Gotta love that roster. Defense wins championships, baby.

Bold Pick: Miami Misses the Postseason

I’m probably wrong. But this is what my gut tells me. Dwayne Wade is getting tired, and there are some talented young teams behind them.

And just for fun…

Worst Regular Season Record: Minnesota

Still feeling good about that whole Garnett trade? Thought so. Give Brett Favre a call. Can’t hurt to get him in a uniform, could it?

That’s what I’ve got. Let’s see how I do. Feel free to make fun of me, but I think I’ve got some solid ideas. Chime in, speak up!
