Bring Back “Tough Enough”
Posted on 04 February 2010 by Wanna Be Sports Guy
Now, I’ll be the first person to admit this – I hate all things MTV. I truly believe that, between MTV and VH1, the popular media have nearly ruined a generation of children.
But I will say one thing: Many of my current favorite pro wrestlers wouldn’t be around if not for a reality show known as “Tough Enough.”
Here’s a brief list of the show’s currently active alumni:
John Morrison: One of the most exciting you faces in the WWE. He’s a natural on the microphone, and can really bring it in the ring. He’d been competing almost exclusively as a tag-team wrestler until recent months, but now has managed to gain both a loyal following and the Intercontinental Championship.
Michael “The Miz” Mizanin: Anyone who watches RAW nowadays knows him. Miz, the aforementioned Morrison’s former tag partner, has made a name for himself during his reign as US Champion. He’s got great mic skills, and comes of like “a young Rock in training,” as one of my friends put it.
“The Blueprint” Matt Morgan: He’s a dominating figure, and is slowly inserting himself into the TNA championship picture. “The Blueprint” is a promising physical specimen, and his current affiliation with Hernandez gives him a solid stage on which to demonstrate his abilities. Don’t be surprised if he wins individual gold before the end of 2010.
So, years after its cancellation, we can honestly say that (gasp!) an MTV show was a legitimate success. Three of the best young faces in pro wrestling owe their careers to a reality contest.
And there may be no better time to return Tough Enough to its place in the WWE lineup. Think about it – aren’t we all a little tired of Cena vs. Orton vs. Triple H? I know I am. We need some fresh blood. And Tough Enough could be the next pipeline.
