The Clippers finally did the right thing

Posted on 12 March 2010 by Wanna Be Sports Guy

A few days ago, the Clippers made a stunning announcement, they got rid of Mike Dunleavy for good. Dunleavy was relieved of his duties as the Los Angeles Clippers general manager. It was a surprise that wasn’t really a surprise. Dunleavy worked for the Clipper organization for 7 years, but the Clippers only made the postseason once and only had one winning season while Dunleavy was either head coach or general manager.

Dunleavy’s departure is a step forward for the Clippers, who have had their share of problems this season. Blake Griffin, the Clippers number one draft choice, suffered a season ending injury that left the team in despair. The Clippers also traded Marcus Camby and Al Thorton, for virtually nothing. You think that had something to do with his firing? I think so.

If the Clippers want to make progress, it was important to fire Dunleavy. Donald Sterling also needs hire someone to run the show. Sterling owns the Clippers but does not do a good job spearheading the organization. Sterling is the “genius” who put all his faith in Dunleavy. While Dunleavy was the coach and general manager, the Clippers went 215-325, a record not worthy of belonging to an Los Angeles basketball team.

Now that Sterling has fired Dunleavy, what are the Clippers going to do about a coach for next season? Because let’s face it, the Clippers’ 2009 season ended when Griffin got hurt. So what is the plan for next season? Hire a great coach, buy a few star players, maybe move to another city? Let’s just hope Sterling makes the right choice.
