New York Yankees: My 8 ball says Repeat

Posted on 28 April 2010 by Wanna Be Sports Guy

The New York Yankees won the World Series in 2009 and many are wondering if the addition of outfielder Curtis Granderson will make them repeat champions. The Yankees have plenty of star power, but sometimes that doesn’t get you to the ultimate goal, a World Series victory. They will have to rely on their old guards, Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada and Mariano Rivera to help them get through the season, while the younger players, Alex Rodriguez, Mark Texiera , C.C. Sabathia, and Granderson will have to make sure their tank is full and are ready to roll.

With all the hype surrounding the 2010 Yankee team. Let’s look back and see if they cam measure up to their Yankee predecessors. Without a doubt, the Yankees are the most dominant franchise since the 1920s. In the last 90 years, they have appeared in 40 World Series and won 27 World Series Championships. The Yankees have won an outstanding 60% of all the World Series they’ve played in.

The Yankees have swept their World Series opponents eight times, including three consecutive sweeps in 1927, 1928 and 1932. In other words, from 1927 to 1932, New York played 12 World Series games without losing

The Yankees played in eight World Series from 1927 to 1941 and won them all. Now that’s efficiency. From 1943 to 1953 they won seven World Series without losing. New York played in 42 series games from 926 to 1942 and were shutout just once. Here’s another fact. Each time New York lost a World Series between 1941 and 1958, they came back the next year to beat the very team who defeated them in the previous World Series. Now that’s what you call revenge. So with all the talk around the Yankees this season, it wouldn’t be a surprise if they won it all again.
