Ohio: Sports Hell on Earth

Posted on 25 April 2010 by Wanna Be Sports Guy

Out of every state in the union, nowhere is there more misery than within the boundaries of Ohio. From border to border, the 34th state in American history hosts some of the most angst-ridden, win starved sports fans in the world. With a reputation for futility and poor management moves, franchises from around the Buckeye State have been disappointing fans for years.

Don’t believe me? Check out this brief breakdown of their major pro teams.

Cleveland Cavaliers
Currently the best team on the list, LeBron and crew have been picked by many NBA pundits to (finally) cash in on their championship potential. But even with the buzz surrounding this year’s squad, Cavs fans are still squirming in their chairs. Everyone knows that James wants out of Ohio, yearning for the big city lights of New York. If they can’t win it all this year, he’ll probably get his way.

Cincinnati Bengals
Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson had a decent year last season. But thanks to a forgettable campaign from Carson Palmer, the Bengals didn’t make it past the Wild Card round. Cedric Benson was a big story, putting up great numbers in a no-pressure season. We’ll see if he can repeat them, now that he’s expected to be the featured man out of the Bengals backfield.

Cleveland Browns
How about that Brady Quinn, huh? Pending this year’s draft, it looks as though the Browns will remain among the most woeful franchises in the NFL.

Cleveland Indians
They have a long and storied history, but have been rather ineffective in their last few seasons. Think about it: two of their biggest pitchers (CC Sabathia and Cliff Lee), have moved on to bigger and better things. Some of the biggest names on their roster are Austin Kearns, and the woefully-overpaid Travis Hafner. There’s some exciting young talent on the squad (such as infielder Matt LaPorta), but the 25-man roster also has such stinkers as Jamey Wright. It’ll be another rough year for the Indians in the competitive AL Central.

Cincinnati Reds
Dusty Baker is their manager. Sure, they have Aroldis Chapman, and and exciting young pitching staff. But they’ll lose this year. Because Dusty Baker is their manager .
