Earl Campbell: Never made it to the Super Bowl Dance
Posted on 25 June 2010 by Wanna Be Sports Guy
Earl Campbell joined Bum Phillips’ Houston Oilers in 1978. As a rookie, his presence in the backfield immediately transformed the Oilers into a team who had a good chance of dethroning the Pitttsburg Steelers from their best in the AFC division.
In 1979 Earl Campbell and the Oilers made it to the AFC Championship Game in Pittsburg, but lost. The next year Earl Campbell and the Oilers “hammered at Pittsburg’s door” but were unable to jar it open. Unfortunately, the super dooper talented Earl Campbell never won another playoff game.
