Fantasy Sleepers: NFC Edition

Posted on 16 June 2010 by Wanna Be Sports Guy

About a week ago, I brought you a list of fantasy football sleepers from the AFC. Now, true to my word, I’ve put together an interesting look at trio of young players who figure to outproduce their draft slots in 2010. Take a look, and keep them in the back of your mind in the later rounds.

WR Devin Aromashodu, Chicago Bears

He showed some impressive flare toward the end of 2009, posting 196 yards and three touchdowns over his final two games. Johnny Knox and Devin Hester will probably begin the season as the starting tandem in Chicago, but the 26-year old Aromashodu will eventually play his way into fantasy relevance. He’s got tremendous strength, and has shown good chemistry with Jay Cutler. He’ll go several rounds later than the Bears’ “other” Devin, but odds are that he’ll match the numbers put up by the former special teams sensation.

RB Jahvid Best, Detroit Lions
Detroit is not a very good football team, though they do host a few interesting sleepers for 2010. Foremost among these may be rookie Jahvid Best, who could be the Lions starting back as early as opening day. Even though he missed the final three games of his college career, the 5-foot-10, 199 pound rusher managed to collect 867 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground, adding in 213 passing yards and another four scores. On a team desperate for offensive flash, Best’s time could come sooner rather than later.

WR Hakeem Nicks, New York Giants
He’s the most talented wideout on the Giants’ roster, though he won’t draw the fantasy attention of New York’s Steve Smith. He’s got the speed to create big plays, as evidenced by his average of 16.8 yards per catch in 2009. While he may not start the season as the team’s number two receiver, expect him to reach those heights by year’s end. He’s only 22 years of age, and could prove to be a great late-round pick in deeper leagues.

So there you go! I’ll bring these lists back periodically throughout the months leading up to the football season, and will probably post a few trade/waiver pieces once play begins. Good luck in all your drafts!
