Jimmy Bivins: One of the greatest fighters who never won a belt
Posted on 29 June 2010 by Wanna Be Sports Guy
Jimmy Bivins fought from 1940 to 1955. He fought in the welterweight, middleweight, light heavyweight, and heavy-weight divisions. Bivins made his professional debut on January 15, 1940. In his debut, he won by knockout in the first round. Bivins was the 1940s version of Mike Tyson (without the crazy tattoos, pretty girlfriends, and spousal abuse). During his first year pro, Bivins won his first nineteen fights.
Bivin’s prolific career involved defeating many world champions. He defeated Hall of Famers Joey Maxim, Archie Moore, Ezzard Charles, and Gus Lesnevich.
Jimmy Bivins was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1999.
