Wrigleyville: A place to see before your ballgame is over

Posted on 28 June 2010 by Wanna Be Sports Guy

Wrigleyville is bordered by Halsted St. on the east, Ashland Ave. on the west, Roscoe St. on the south and Byron St. on the north. Wrigleyville is brought to life by die-hard Chicago Cubs fans every summer, this neighborhood has a vibrant nightlife and hometown spirit.

The Cubby Bear Lounge and Murphy’s Bleachers are two of the most famous Wrigleyville drinking spots. Cubby Bear Lounge opened as the Cub’s Pub in 1946. When the Cubs are playing a day game at Wrigley Field, the Cubby Bear sales cans of Old Style, bottles of Cubby Bear Root Bear, and authentic Chicago-style hot dogs at 10am.

Murphy’s Bleachers started out as Ernie’s Bleachers in the 30’s. Earnie’s Bleachers was a drive up hot dog stand selling beer by the pail. In 1965 Earnie sold it to Ray and it was called Ray’s Bleachers. Ray’s Bleachers became the home of the Bleacher Bums who surfaced during the Cub’s race for the pennant in 1969 & disappeared when the Cubs did in the early 70’s.

Murphy’s Bleachers is located at the corner of Waveland and Sheffield Avenue. It is just outside of the gates to the Wrigley Field bleachers. Murphy’s Bleachers is nationally known as the place to hang out before, after and during Chicago baseball games for fans, players and celebrities.

Been there? Done that? Wrigleyville is also home to the Sluggers and the Goose Island Brew Pub.

Sluggers is a bar with a full indoor sports complex with batting cages, trampoline basketball, electronic football, basketball, ski simulator, golf, Skee ball, virtual driving games, and air hockey. It is a ‘must see’ for avid sports fans.

Goose Island Brew Pub is a perfect place for a beer snob to take in a few pints of beer while watching the game. Goose Island Brew Pup produces over 50 craft beers, the best of which are then bottled at our Fulton Street brewery.
Goose Island Brew Pub ships its beers to 15 states and the U.K.
