Lakers Trivia: Who was the Los Angeles Lakers First GM?
Posted on 28 July 2010 by Wanna Be Sports Guy
The Los Angeles Lakers have a long and rich tradition in winning championships. Luckily, the Lakers have had the right people in their front office to help them reach the promise land time and time again. So the question is who was the Lakers first general manager in Los Angeles?
A. Jerry West
B. Joe Mullaney
C. Pat Riley
D. Lou Mohs
Answer is D Lou Mohs. Lou Mohs moved with the team from Minneapolis to Los Angeles. During his tenure as general manager, the Lakers made it to the playoffs every year and to the NBA Finals four times. When Laker owner Bob Short moved the Laker franchise to Los Angeles, he ordered Mohs to build his financially challenged franchise into a winner.
During his time as Laker general manager Lou Mohs drafted Jerry West (1960), Leroy Ellis (1962), Gene Wiley (1962), Jim King (1963), Walt Hazzard (1964), Gail Goodrich (1965), Jerry Chambers (1966) and Archie Clark (1966). He would also hire a man that would lead the Lakers to 5 NBA Finals, head coach Fred Schaus.
Not bad for a first-time General Manager.
