Minnesota Vikings, is this the year of the thieves?

Posted on 28 August 2010 by Wanna Be Sports Guy

Does one really know what a Viking is? Well if you don’t know, a Viking is kind of like a thief, but a thief that could probably rip your head off with one hand. The term Viking comes from the swift and cruel raids along the coast, which some used the saying,”lets go to a-viking”. These thieves or pirates, which ever name you choose, jumped off dragon ships, yelled out their battle cry and attacked villagers with swords and battle axes. Vikings became the most feared men in all of Europe. In fact, the have an era named after them, simply called, the Viking era.

Here’s my question, are we in another Viking era. the Football kind? The Vikings have always had pretty good teams, except maybe for the 1980s, when they had a record of 66-65. But other than that, the Vikings have been a team I’ve respected since I can remember. My Vikings memories start with Dennis Green becoming the new coach after Bud Grant’s long and illustrious career came top an end. Green only had one losing season out of 10 years, but never made io the Super Bowl, even though, in 1998, he coached a Viking team that went 15-1. How the hell do you go 15-1 and still not go to the Super Bowl. The 1998 football season is probably a season Vikings and their fans tucked deep down into their subconscious.

So we are now in another decade and the Vikings seem to finally have another legitimate shot at the Super Bowl. Brett Farve and Adrian Peterson are the new leaders for the Vikings and this coming season, they will have a chance to cement their place in Vikings history, by leading their team to the promised land. Could we be in for another Viking Era? We’ll just have to wait and see. But just to be sure, I’ll hiding my stash and it won’t be in under my mattress.
